Earlier this year, shortly after filming their Anjunadeep 14 performance, James Grant and Jody Wisternoff were shown some of the sights of the beautiful island of Malta.

Now, Anjunadeep is excited to be bringing our Open Air event series to the historic location of Castello Zamittello, in the beautiful Maltese countryside. On October 14, James Grant, Jody Wisternoff and special guest Joseph Ray will take to the island for an exclusive sunset showcase.

The Nature of Music

Music is the art of producing and interpreting sound. It is one of the world’s most popular pastimes and an integral part of many cultures. It has a unique power to affect emotion and can inspire behavior, whether it is the euphoria of a great concert or the persuasion to commit unethical acts. Music is a key component in most modern entertainment and has become a significant factor in the evolution of culture and society.

Music production is a multibillion-dollar industry that includes publishing, recording, and live performances. The most popular genres of music are pop, rock, country, R&B, and jazz. Broadway musicals are a major source of income for composers, and the songs from such shows as Oklahoma!, Carousel, and South Pacific have been recorded by countless artists.

A number of philosophers have analyzed the nature of music. For the Platonists, it was an art that portrayed universal rhythms and a mathematical reality that could be experienced by the human mind as a subconscious apprehension of numerical relationships. For the Epicureans and Stoics, it was a sensual pleasure that served an important function in moral development.

The emergence of the twentieth century saw music assume a more central role in society. The global appeal of jazz, folk, and rock advanced egalitarian values and helped to loosen sexual mores. The rise of electronic media gave musicians unprecedented worldwide exposure and influence. While some academics have criticized the sway of popular culture, many others have recognized its empowering and unifying effects.
