Production of Music
The production of music includes creating instruments and sounds as well as recording and broadcasting. Aside from its practical utility in communicating information and emotions, it plays a substantial role in culture. It provides entertainment, it gives people an outlet to be creative and it helps us understand beauty.
Artists have used their craft to challenge and provoke, inspire and uplift. They have used their voices to tell stories, share ideas and bring a message of love. They have made us laugh and cry, they have helped change the world. Some artists have changed the way we think and some have even changed our lives.
Some of the most popular musical genres are pop, country and rock. They are based on melodies and simple chord progressions that are easily relatable. Some artists take influences from other genres and blend them to create their own unique sound. For example, ‘Runaway’ by Del Shannon and ‘I’ll Be Back’ by Queen are both examples of songs that use a combination of Country and Jazz.
The most common types of music are vocal and instrumental. Instrumental music is usually accompanied by an orchestra. Other types of musical accompaniment include guitars, pianos and vocalists. Vocal music can also be monophonic (a single melody with an accompaniment) or polyphonic (two or more independent melodies).
The most common musical elements are rhythm and harmony. Rhythm refers to the organization of sound into beats and silences. Beats can be grouped into patterns such as duple, triple and quadruple meters. The strength or intensity of the beats can be emphasized by varying their duration and they can be arranged into short or long phrases called STEVENS and RECES. Rhythm is further organized into rhythmic groupings called MEASURES.
