Facts About Music Production and Distribution
Music is one of the most significant aspects of human culture. It has influenced human civilization for thousands of years. More than just an entertainment form, music has become a valuable medium for cultural exchange. Today, it is also a major business industry, spanning all aspects of music production, distribution, publishing, live concerts, and album sales. Streaming accounts for a huge portion of the music industry’s revenue, while physical sales have steadily declined.
In the 1970s, glam rock began to take the music world by storm. David Bowie, Billy Joel, and other musicians defined glam rock’s flamboyance. After the decade, disco took over the music world, with stars like The Bee Gees and Gloria Gaynor taking the scene by storm. Bob Marley, meanwhile, put reggae music on the map. James Brown ushered in funk and hip-hop, while artists like Toni Braxton and XXXTenta Franklin helped define contemporary Christian music.
CDs were first introduced in 1982. Within twenty years, more than 200 billion CDs were sold. CD technology did not rely on magnetic tape but instead used digital optical recording to store and playable tracks on polycarbonate plastic discs. The result was superior stereo sound, a thin, light, and convenient portable disc. The advent of digital music enabled consumers to create playlists based on musical genres and mood. Despite these limitations, MP3 technology has paved the way for a new generation of music distribution.
When it comes to making music, one of the key components is pitch. Pitch is the quality of sound. This can be harsh, gentle, warm, or dry. Different notes and rhythms produce different qualities in music. A particular song may be called a pop song, a rock ballad, or a country tune. However, these are only examples of timbre. In reality, the qualities of sound affect how we experience it.
