The Art of Producing Music

Music is a form of entertainment and a tool for social cohesion. Music has been around for thousands of years and its impact continues to ripple throughout generations. The art has many different forms; singing in the shower, listening to your favourite track whilst doing chores or simply dancing along at a festival. However, there is a deeper aspect to the production of music.

The act of creating and performing music is a process that is often long and winding. Whether starting off by playing small gigs or posting covers on Youtube, it can take a while for aspiring artists to grow their audiences, break out from the pack and make a living from their music. Then comes the juggling act of being a full-time musician; writing, recording, touring and working a day job. This is where the real magic happens. The energy from the crowds and the thrill of a good performance is what drives most musicians.

Musical instruments are the oldest known human inventions. The earliest recorded music dates back to 42,000-43,000 years ago and was probably used as entertainment. It was only until the development of language that other purposes were found for music, such as facilitating communication between individuals.

The concept of music is a hugely subjective matter. For some, it is a way to express emotions and experiences in an artistic manner that allows them to tell stories and connect with people. For others it’s a tool to be transported to other places and times, or even a form of therapy.
