These platforms are allowing independent artists to bypass labels and sell their music directly to fans. Streaming revenues have grown to multiple billions of dollars in just 10 years. The success of these platforms has led to a decline in physical music sales.

According to The Guardian, a study of consumer listening habits has revealed a shift in how people listen to music. The most popular genres are pop and hip hop. The two occupy the top spots on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, the music genres are gaining popularity among younger audiences.
