Anjunadeep is excited to welcome James Shinra to the label with ‘Mainline EP’, a four-track release rooted in electro and breakbeat.
The UK-based producer and DJ has been cultivating his sound since the mid 2000’s, and since his first vinyl release on Null+Void Recordings in 2015 has gained notable support within the UK electro scene. Shinra has released with Feel My Bicep, Craigie Knowes, 20/20 Vision Recordings and more, and gained DJ support from Sasha, Pete Tong, Bicep, Hammer, John Digweed & Ida Engberg to name a few.
‘Mainline EP’ is heavily rooted in the evolution of electronic music that inspired Shinra; it is laden with trance and acid melodies, driving rave breakbeats, 808s, and low rolling basslines. Whilst the EP is inherently club focused, Shinra’s dissonant melodies maintain a powerful sense of introspection and melancholy, distinguishing the record from others in the electro genre.

Music is the combination of sounds to express emotion or to convey a message. It has been a significant part of human societies throughout history and is often composed for aesthetic reasons. It can be as simple as a folk song or as complex as an electronic composition. It is auditory and conceptual, and it has been practiced in all cultures, styles, and periods.
Different schools of music theory emphasize different aims and qualities of music. Some emphasize the explicit goals of a work, while others place a greater aesthetic value on its intrinsic meaning. In both cases, reference and formalism play a role. It is possible to define a musical piece with a specific purpose, and both sides have their merits.
Ancient philosophers regarded music as a department of ethics, and some considered music a part of the good life. Plato, for example, saw a relationship between music and character. The sophist favored simplicity and declared that complicated music led to disorder. Ultimately, Plato believed that music echoed the divine harmony. It imitated the movements of heavenly bodies and reflected the moral order of the universe.
Music has long been considered the language of emotions. However, it lacks precise semantics, and different listeners may derive different meanings from a single piece. Furthermore, neither spoken nor written language can fully render music’s meanings. Ultimately, verbal explication raises more questions than it resolves.
