The Power of Music
Music is the art of arranging sound to create emotional reactions. The power of music can uplift the human spirit, comfort us, and inspire ideals that support humanity’s aspiration to live in peace. Musical expressions range from complex orchestral compositions to simple folk songs.
The study of how sounds are arranged to create the effect of music is called MUSIC THEORY. Musical instruments are used to produce the sounds that constitute a musical composition, which is often described in terms of TIMBRE (tone) TEXTURE (volume and speed) RHYTHM (rhythmic pattern) AND SYNCHRONY (the way different parts of the composition work together).
Artists that created the genres that we now call rock and roll, blues, and jazz were not only incredibly talented musicians, they also had an eye for creating moods with their music. Creedence Clearwater Revival, for example, had that classic country feel to their music without all the overblown machismo of a lot of bands back then. Guns n’ Roses is another band that wasn’t afraid to keep it simple. Slash just played what was needed to complete the song, as opposed to using his guitar skills as a way to show off.
Whether you are an amateur or professional musician, there are numerous opportunities to participate in music festivals throughout the world. These events are designed to be a friendly, supportive platform for musicians to share their love of the music they create and perform. Many participants are given a certificate, classified according to their merit or ranking, and some may even win trophies or scholarships.
