Amsterdam-based DJ, producer and singer-songwriter Nicky Elisabeth debuts on Anjunadeep with new double A-side ‘Fading /Sun’.
A new talent in the techno world, Nicky Elisabeth’s thundering DJ sets have earned her an ever-growing following, and she has wowed at DGTL festival, Fabric (London) and her own residency at Amsterdam’s De Marktkantine. Her 2021 ‘Celeste’ EP on Michael Mayer’s imprint Kompakt marked her first release, and a successful one at that: receiving support from Joris Voorn, WhoMadeWho, Agents of Time and more.
On her first Anjunadeep label release ‘Fading / Sun’, Nicky showcases a softer side to her sound. Her airy vocals perfectly complement her tight, polished production and make for a well-balanced release.

For centuries, people have enjoyed music, from jukeboxes to earbuds, and from concert venues to bars and restaurants. Music has been used to move people, make them laugh, cry, and even inspire congressional investigations. Despite its long history, music is constantly in flux. MP3 technology has changed the way music is consumed. For decades, the jukebox was the center of every party. It filled the air with music on a pay-per-play basis. The jukeboxes had limited storage and were limited by the physical media inside, but MP3s gave people bottomless music libraries in the palm of their hand. Today, people can download music in the form of MP3s and stream it in their car.
The late ’70s brought us the grunge movement, and the era of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones ended. Punk rock became more accessible, and bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and The Police became mainstream. Other notable acts of the decade included Blues Traveler, which developed a style that owed homage to the Grateful Dead. Though Garcia died in 1995, the Grateful Dead continues to tour under alternative names, including The Who, and U2, among others.
World music and Francophone Africa achieved international success with records produced in France. The independent Celluloid label helped bridge the gap between immigrant and indigenous European markets. Toure Kunda, a Senegalese group, sold 300,000 copies of its debut album. Youssou N’Dour’s Immigranres followed suit. During the 1980s, francophone West and North Africa’s music was booming and reaching new audiences.
